September 24, 2020
Dear Residents, Family Members, and Friends:
On September 17, 2020 CMS published a revised guidance memorandum regarding visitation in Nursing Homes during COVID-19.
We are aware of this publication and our management team has been meeting to determine the best way to protect the residents, visitors and staff once we begin the inside visits.
It will be necessary to maintain the same process of screening, etc. we currently practice for outside courtyard visitations.
Governor DeWine stated on September 22, 2020, through the Associated Press that “Indoor visits with residents of Ohio’s Nursing Homes will be allowed once again as cold weather approaches… the details will come within a week.” To date we have not received further guidance or a revision to the previous order which prohibits inside visitation.
Once we obtain the nursing home re-opening parameters for inside visitations from the Governor of Ohio, we will then be better able to set up the process for scheduling and visits.
Please understand visits may take place in a common area to maintain social distancing, infection control, and the well-being of everyone within the community.
Thank you for your patience and understanding as we begin to transition.
Sincerely,
Robert D. Burns, MHSA, LNHA Administrator

Facility COVID Update and Testing of Staff and Residents
Dear Residents and Resident Representatives,
I wanted to give you an update on the facility’s current COVID-19 status and what has transpired in the last 24 hours.
Yesterday we reported two positive COVID-19 cases based on the results we had received from the State mandated testing lab for Saint Margaret Hall. Both residents were and continued to be asymptomatic. We had the residents re-tested, through a local Lab, and the results showed they were negative for COVID-19. Continuing to follow the recommendations by the CDC and CMS, and working closely with the Cincinnati Health Department on the re-testing, they have determined the re-testing of the residents with a negative result is the correct diagnosis.
This is based on a letter from The Ohio Department of Health dated August 26, 2020 informing Assisted Living facilities of “testing data inconsistencies.” As a result they are pausing testing at this time.
To date, nine residents and six staff have tested positive. As you are aware, personal health information is protected by HIPAA, therefore, we are unable to give any details about the resients.
On August 18, 2020, all facility staff were tested for COVID-19. As of August 23, 2020 all staff tests were negative. This is the first of three (3) bi-weekly tests the staff are required to have per the order from the Ohio Department of Health. The next test dates for all staff will be September 1st and September 15th.
Effective Thursday August 27, 2020 we will resume the resident/family courtyard visitations. Our Social Services staff will be contacting you to confirm your upcoming scheduled visit. In addition, the Beauty Salon will re-open on Friday, August 28th.
We will continue to provide regular updates on the COVID-19 line at 513-487-3574. If you have questions, please contact Mandy Boll, Director of Nursing at 513-646-1383 8:00a-6:00p

We are taking every step as recommended by the CDC and CMS to contain the spread and we continue to work closely with the Cincinnati Health Department.

The test for our Assisted Living residents was conducted on August 20, 2020. The results were received on August 24, 2020, with 2 residents testing positive (both are asymptomatic) and the remaining tests were negative.
As a result of the two positive tests we are suspending all outside resident/family visits until further notice and the Salon will also be closed. Additionally, we ask that outside physician appointments be limited to those which are medically necessary at this time. We will continue to schedule Telehealth visits if and when possible and maintain all efforts for open communication lines between physicians and nursing staff.

Dear Residents and Resident Representatives,
I wanted to give you an update on the COVID-19 testing process.
On Monday we were notified that the Ohio Department of Health will be collaborating with the Ohio National Guard to complete COVID-19 testing for our staff and residents (Nursing Home and Assisted Living) on June 10, 2020. The testing is scheduled to take place in the afternoon. St. Margaret Hall staff will accompany the guardsmen when our residents are tested so they can explain the procedure and provide support. The test will be a nasal swab which is less invasive and more comfortable than the nasopharyngeal test. The actual test takes less than 30 seconds.
After we receive the results of the testing, the facility will have baseline information on residents and staff. We do expect to identify additional cases since there are COVID cases in the facility. Results typically take 48-72 hours, the resident’s representative will be notified of the test result when it is received.
To date, nine residents have tested positive, two residents have been tested and are presumed positive, two staff have tested positive, and one staff member who was experiencing some symptoms after testing negative is quarantining at home out of an abundance of caution.
We are taking every step as recommended by authorities to contain the spread. We continue to work closely with the Cincinnati Health Department through daily calls. In addition to steps recommended by the CDC, we implemented a second daily screen for all of our staff a few weeks ago. The second screen will help identify staff who may develop an elevated temperature or new symptoms during the work day. We also monitor residents 2-3 times a day for elevated temperature and/or new symptoms.
We will continue to provide regular updates on the COVID-19 line at 513-487-3574. If you have questions, please call the unit manager Candida Compton for the second floor or Wanda Owens for the third floor at 513-751-5880

Facility COVID Update and Testing of Staff and Residents
Dear Residents and Resident Representatives,
I wanted to give you an update on the facility’s current COVID-19 status and the COVID-19 testing process.
To date, eight residents are positive for COVID-19. Two residents tested negative but did have symptoms thus they are considered probable cases. Several residents who tested positive are asymptomatic. All residents are located in the same area. The families of these residents have been notified. We are taking every step as recommended by authorities to contain the spread and we continue to work closely with the Cincinnati Health Department.
As you are aware, personal health information is protected by HIPAA, therefore, we are unable to give any details about the staff member or residents.
As of June 4, two staff have tested positive and both are quarantining at home and looking forward to getting back to work. One staff member was experiencing some symptoms but tested negative. Out of an abundance of caution, that individual is quarantining at home as well.
It is anticipated that universal testing in Ohio nursing facilities will be completed by the end June. St. Margaret Hall is currently waiting to be scheduled for universal testing by the Ohio Department of Health.
We will continue to provide regular updates on the COVID-19 line at 513-487-3574. If you have questions, please contact Mandy Boll, Director of Nursing at 513-646-1383 8:00a-6:00p.

Facility COVID Update and Testing of Staff and Residents
Dear Residents and Resident Representatives,
I wanted to give you an update on the facility’s current COVID-19 status and the COVID-19 testing process.
Last week St. Margaret Hall began testing staff and some residents based on CDC reports that approximately 35-40% of individuals who tested positive for COVID-19 experienced no signs or symptoms. Since the Coronavirus is highly contagious, isolating the asymptomatic individuals is critical. For that reason, St. Margaret Hall began testing proactively last week.
So far we have received 24 tests results with one additional resident and one additional staff member testing positive for COVID-19. We continue to test additional staff and three residents who are experiencing symptoms and should have results this week. The families of these residents have been notified. As you are aware, personal health information is protected by HIPAA, therefore, we are unable to give any details about the staff member or residents.
Staff members who test positive are followed by the Cincinnati Health Department and must be released by the health department before returning to work. Residents who test positive will be placed in isolation for at least fourteen days.
We are taking every step as recommended by authorities to contain the spread and we continue to work closely with the Cincinnati Health Department.
We will continue to provide regular updates on the COVID-19 line at 513-487-3574. If you have questions, please contact Mandy Boll, Director of Nursing at 513-646-1383 8:00a-6:00p.

Facility COVID Update and Mandatory Testing of Nursing Home Staff in Ohio
Dear Residents and Resident Representatives,
I wanted to give you an update on the facility’s current COVID-19 status and COVID-19 testing in nursing homes.
Last week Governor Dewine gave a directive to begin mandatory testing of staff in nursing homes beginning the week of May 25, 2020. Per the Governor’s plan the National Guard will be deployed to begin a strategic testing approach in nursing homes. This team will be comprised of physicians, nurses and others with clinical expertise. Staff of all nursing homes will be tested. Per this plan, resident testing will proceed based on the location/prevalence of COVID.
Currently St. Margaret Hall has one resident and one staff who have tested positive for Covid-19. In addition, three other residents have been tested and the results are pending. The families of these residents have been notified. As you are aware, personal health information is protected by HIPAA, therefore, we are unable to give any details about the staff member or residents.
Based on the COVID cases in the facility, we have started testing staff and certain residents. The CDC has reported that approximately 35-40% of individuals who tested positive for COVID-19 experienced no signs or symptoms. We acknowledge that during this testing process we are likely to identify asymptomatic individuals who test positive. St. Margaret Hall has a plan in place to address this situation and state and local health departments will provide clinical expertise and guidance. Staff who test positive will be required to self-quarantine as recommended by the CDC. St. Margaret Hall will work with the Cincinnati Health Department to ensure staff return to work room only when it is safe to do so. Residents who test positive will be cared for on the isolation unit for at least 14 days.
We are taking every step as recommended by authorities to contain the spread and we continue to work closely with the Cincinnati Health Department.
We will be providing regular updates on the COVID-19 line at 513-487-3574.
If you have questions, please contact Mandy Boll, Director of Nursing at 513-646-1383 8:00a-6:00p.
Our staff continues to work diligently to care for all of our residents. We are grateful for your support.
May 26 Coronavirus Update
Dear St. Margaret Hall Residents and Families,
A case of COVID-19, the illness resulting from the novel coronavirus, has been diagnosed in a part-time employee of St. Margaret Hall.
The staff member is in quarantine at home. We have notified public health officials as required and are following procedures recommended by the Centers for Disease Control & Prevention.
We are taking every step as recommended by authorities to contain the spread. We want to make residents, their families, and our dedicated staff aware of this situation and reassure everyone that we are on top of the situation.
We learned of the case this afternoon and I wanted to share this information with you immediately. We are in the process of notifying our residents. As you are aware, personal health information is protected by HIPAA, therefore, we are unable to give any details about the staff member.
I realize this is a serious and unsettling time for all of us. Now more than ever, it is all of our responsibility to remain diligent with our social distancing and hand hygiene practices to continue to maintain a safe place to work and live. Our actions are literally saving lives. We know you are depending on us.
If you have questions, please contact Mandy Boll, Director of Nursing at 513-646-1383 8:00a-6:00p.
We will be providing regular updates on the COVID-19 line at 513-487-3574.
Coronavirus Update from the Cincinnati Department of Health
May 7, 2020
St. Margaret Hall staff and families,
It was brought to our attention by administration that there was some confusion over a recent weekly longterm care facility report. We would like for everyone to know that the Cincinnati Health Department has been working very closely with St. Margaret Hall in order to prevent the transmission of COVID-19 to any of its residents or staff since the virus was first identified in our community. The medical staff are monitoring residents and staff daily for symptoms and they are reporting this and all lab results to the Cincinnati Health Department. Anyone identified with symptoms is recommended to be evaluated for COVID-19 and tested. We wanted to clarify that there have been no positive laboratory results for any staff or residents of St.
Margaret Hall.
We urge you to continue to have open communications with the facility and refer to the Cincinnati Health Department website www.cincinnati-oh.gov/health/ if you have any general questions about
COVID-19. You are also welcome to contact me if you have questions or concerns about the specific report at (513) 357-7391.
Sincerely,
Kim Wright
Supervising Epidemiologist
Cincinnati Health Department
March 25 Coronavirus Update
March 25, 2020
To Our Residents, Families, and Guests,
We are following the recommendations of the Centers for Disease Control (CDC) and Governor Mike DeWine’s office to restrict all visitors due to the spread of COVID-19. Doctors, laboratory services, x-ray and all other "essential" health services will continue to serve facility residents. This practice is in place now and will be reviewed at 14-day intervals. Please check our website frequently for updates.
Our focus remains on doing what we do best, keeping our residents and staff safe. Be assured that we are prepared, protocols are in place and reviewed daily and will be updated as needed. We have strong clinical and operational plans in place to manage infection control for everyone involved.
We here at St. Margaret Hall understand how important it is to visit your loved ones and how difficult it may be to not see them "face-to-face". We will assist you during this time to stay in contact with your loved one: send and receive phone calls, face time, Skype, social media or email communications. Please contact our Social Workers, Cyndy Walther, Christie Lee or Sue Lowery, Activities Director at 513-751-5880. You can also reach them by email at [email protected], [email protected], [email protected] to arrange a time for these types of communication.
Thank you for your understanding and cooperation.

March 17 Coronavirus Update
March 17, 2020
Dear Family Members and Representatives,
On March 13, 2020, the Governor issued an order to restrict access to all Nursing Homes only to those personnel who are absolutely necessary for the operations of the Nursing Home. The order also stated that no visitors of residents shall be allowed to visit any nursing home, except for end-of-life situations.
Also on March 13, 2020, CMS (Centers for Medicare & Medicaid Services) issued revised guidance to Nursing Homes which instructed facilities to cancel communal dining and all group activities.
As a result of the new guidance, we will be making some changes to our routine. Meal times and seating location may vary but we anticipate minimal disruption. Staff will be available to provide extra assistance as residents adjust to the changes. The Activities Department will be offering more 1:1 visits and other staff will be stopping by to chat with residents. Based on the availability of Priests, we hope to continue to offer daily Mass, but the residents will be viewing it on the in-house television station rather than attending in the Chapel.
In order to minimize exposure in the community, all non-essential appointments outside the facility should be cancelled. The nurses will be working with physicians to determine which medical appointments need to happen right away and which can be postponed until later.
We know how important it is for residents and their families to stay connected. We have a few ideas that we would like to share.
Schedule a Check-in - once or twice a week a staff member can give you an update on how your family member is doing either by phone call or email. Since the staff's primary focus continues to be resident care, scheduling phone calls will reduce distractions and reduce wait times for our families. If you would like to schedule a "check-in," please call one of our Social Workers Christie Lee or Cyndy Walther. Please note you will continue to be updated with medical information as you have in the past.
Arrange for phone calls, Skype, etc. If your resident needs assistance with making phones calls, contact the Activities Department to schedule a time when staff can assist with the call.
"Operation Little Paper Bag" - who doesn't like a care package from someone they love? Put non-perishable items in a paper lunch bag and drop it off at the front door. Our staff will deliver the bag to the resident. Please put the resident's name (first and last) on the bag but then get creative with a personalized note or decorations. You can include photos, cards, personal products e.g. lotions or whatever you think the resident would enjoy. It is a great way to get the grandchildren and great-grandchildren involved.
The COVID-19 situation is still evolving world-wide and recommendations can change rapidly so we will communicate updates involving St. Margaret Hall via the group text. One representative per resident can sign up for the group text and all you need is a cell phone with texting capability to participate. Please contact Maria in Admissions if you have not yet signed up. We do know there are a few representatives without texting capabilities and we will continue to call those individuals.
While these changes are difficult, we know they were put in place to protect our elderly residents. It is amazing how positive the residents have been and how supportive they are of the staff and each other. Please know the Carmelite Sisters and staff are praying for our residents and their loved ones during this challenging time.

To Our Residents and Family Members:
We know some of you may be concerned about the spread of COVID-19 (the new coronavirus) and how it may impact us here at St. Margaret Hall. Ensuring Residents are cared for in a safe and healthy environment is our greatest concern. Currently there are no known cases of COVID-19 in Ohio; however, The Centers for Disease Control and Prevention (CDC) have recommended a variety of steps that we are implementing to help reduce the potential for the virus to enter our building. We need your help in battling COVID-19. Below are some examples of how you can protect the residents, as well as prevent the spread throughout the community.
At this time, we request that you do not visit the facilities if you have any symptoms of respiratory illness. Those symptoms include cough, fever, sore throat, runny nose, and/or shortness of breath. We understand that connecting with family members is incredibly important, and there are a variety of other ways you might consider connecting including: telephone, email, text, Skype or Facebook.
Wash your hands frequently, regularly and thoroughly clean your hands with an alcohol-based hand rub or wash them with soap and water for 20 seconds.
Avoid touching eyes, nose and mouth
Practice respiratory hygiene. Make sure you, and the people around you, follow good respiratory hygiene. This means covering your mouth and nose with your bent elbow or tissue when you cough or sneeze. Then dispose of the used tissue immediately.
St. Margaret Hall is staying up to date with CDC recommendations. In addition, St. Margaret Hall is in close contact with the local and state health departments and are following their guidance. We are posting signs on our entryway doors to notify visitors of the symptoms of COVID-19 and request that you not enter the building if you are experiencing these symptoms.
Our most up to date information will be communicated to our Residents and Staff Members. Also,
information will be available in folders located at the entrances.
For additional information, please visit the CDC's coronavirus disease information page.

August 26, 2020

Dear Residents and Resident Representatives,
I wanted to give you an update on the facility’s current COVID-19 status and the COVID-19 testing process.
To date, eleven residents have tested positive and of which two are currently positive for COVID-19. The two residents that have tested positive are asymptomatic. Both residents were located on the same floor and have since been relocated to our isolation unit. The families of these residents have been notified. We are taking every step as recommended by the CDC and CMS to contain the spread and we continue to work closely with the Cincinnati Health Department.

Sincerely,
Janet Murphy RN, BSN, LNHA

June 9, 2020
If you have questions, please call the unit manager Candida Compton for the second floor or Wanda Owens for the third floor at 513-751-5880
Our staff continues to work diligently to care for all of our residents. Please keep the staff and residents in your prayers.

Our staff continues to work diligently to care for all of our residents. We are grateful for your support. Please keep the staff and residents in your prayers.

Our staff continues to work diligently to care for all of our residents. We are grateful for your support. Please keep the staff and residents in your prayers.

Schedule a Check-in – once or twice a week a staff member can give you an update on how your family member is doing either by phone call or email. Since the staff’s primary focus continues to be resident care, scheduling phone calls will reduce distractions and reduce wait times for our families. If you would like to schedule a “check-in,” please call one of our Social Workers Christie Lee or Cyndy Walther. Please note you will continue to be updated with medical information as you have in the past.
Arrange for phone calls, Skype, etc. If your resident needs assistance with making phones calls, contact the Activities Department to schedule a time when staff can assist with the call.
“Operation Little Paper Bag” – who doesn’t like a care package from someone they love? Put non-perishable items in a paper lunch bag and drop it off at the front door. Our staff will deliver the bag to the resident. Please put the resident’s name (first and last) on the bag but then get creative with a personalized note or decorations.

June 9, 2020
If you have questions, please call the unit manager Candida Compton for the second floor or Wanda Owens for the third floor at 513-751-5880
Our staff continues to work diligently to care for all of our residents. Please keep the staff and residents in your prayers.

Our staff continues to work diligently to care for all of our residents. We are grateful for your support. Please keep the staff and residents in your prayers.

Sincerely,
Kim Wright

Wash your hands frequently regularly and thoroughly clean your hands with an alcohol-based hand rub or wash them with soap and water for 20 seconds.
